The morning began with a panel taking a closer look at marketing a simulcast product for foreign markets, addressing needs of both the importer and exporter while paying close attention to the needs of the market.
The day continued with a session examining the expansion of online gaming in both North America and abroad, with speakers from WatchandWager.com LLC, William Hill US, and Harness Tracks of America. The panel addressed the potential for exchange wagering in the US as well as the rapid growth of mobile wagering, which is fast overtaking the more conventional forms of online gambling.
Afternoon sessions included the Mark Kaufman Workshop presented by Turf Publicists of America, which addressed adapting to changes in racing media. Speaker Tom Pedulla with America’s Best Racing cited propagation of misinformation as a drawback to the new social media and stressed the importance of traditional journalism. “We believe we have wonderful stories to tell,” explained Pedulla, “And we love to tell them.” Other panelists echoed the sentiments, agreeing that while bloggers have their place in the press box, and Twitter its place in the media toolkit, there is no substitute for a true journalist.
