Blue and white silks were worn to victory by Big Bear Rock down the straight giving his trainer Stephen Brown thoughts of running in the Standish Handicap.
Should Brown and connections opt to take up the challenge with Big Bear Rock in the Standish, they are likely to meet Adamantium, another horse that carried blue and white silks to victory down the straight at Flemington.
Adamantium gave a bold on-pace displaying, settling just off the leaders before surging to the lead at the 400 metre mark, from which point he was never headed.
Adamantium ($8) won by two lengths ahead of Big Buddie ($4.80) with Outstandingly ($14) third, a further three-quarters of a length away in third.
O’Brien decided to apply blinkers to Adamantium – as well as all his other runners at Flemington – and it certainly paid dividends with the son of Elusive City.
“It was a forgivable run at Ballarat,” O’Brien said of his unplaced last start effort.
“Down the straight at Flemington we thought we’d tinker with the gear with the blinkers back on.
“I thought he got to the front a long way from home but it was a strong win.
“He has always shown a bit. He was a good three-year-old and he’s had a few issues.
“Apart from his past couple of runs he has been consistent at the highest level as a three-year-old.
“I’m sure he’ll get confidence from a kill like that and measure up in better races,” he added.
Adamantium has raced 17 times for three wins and seven placings with prizemoney now in excess of $250,000 mark.
