In that time, a horse named Call Me Easy Money covered the 220 yards of the first sanctioned quarter horse pari-mutuel race at the Ocala Breeders' Sales training track.
That first race, however, may be the last for a while as OBS does not plan more racing in the near future. The purpose of the event was to activate a quarter horse racing permit the company has held unused for nearly 25 years.
State legislators contemplated revoking inactive quarter horse permits earlier this year.
"There are no definitive plans (for future races) at this point. There is no date that we need to make a decision by. It is something we will have the option to do in the future," said Tom Ventura, OBS president.
Quarter horse permit holders that run a full meet can qualify to operate card rooms, which can be lucrative.
On Tuesday, several hundred people showed up at the Ocala track to witness the historic races. The two-race card opened with a thoroughbred race. Radiohead, an English-bred, won the 6-furlong allowance by 1 1/2 lengths.
